The diet was developed by American nutritionists, D'Adamo's father and son. They developed a theory about the evolutionary influence of people's lifestyle on biochemical processes in the body, as a result of which various blood groups were formed.

The nutritional principles developed by D'Adamo are based on the selection of those lecithins that are required by the body according to the blood group.
